"Brisbane Airport is a vital piece of public infrastructure serving the interests of the community, business, tourism and government in South East Queensland. As a critical transport hub, Brisbane Airport facilitates the movement of many millions of passengers and tonnes of freight each year.
Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) as the custodian of Brisbane Airport on behalf of the Australian Government, is required to ensure facilities are developed to meet the current and future needs of South East Queensland. This responsibility means it must put into place appropriate planning, making commitments to upgrade and expand the Airport so that it operates efficiently and has the capacity to cater for its growing number of users.
BAC has committed to implementing a $2.5 billion infrastructure program over the next 10 years which will include new roads, new terminals, a new runway system and the development of aviation-related industry precincts.
The Northern Access Road Project (NARP) will form a major part of this infrastructure program. Once complete, the BAC-funded, five kilometre, multi-lane road will provide Airport users and tenants with a second major access route to the terminals and on-Airport businesses.
The NARP is also integral to the Queensland State Government’s $1.8 billion commitment to road infrastructure in the local region and will connect with the new multi-lane deviation of the Gateway Motorway, from the Gateway Bridge through Brisbane Airport land to rejoin the existing motorway at Nudgee Road.
